Taran starts life as a shy little boy in a nice middle-class village environment in south-east England. Not entirely happy with being moved from grammar school to a minor public-school and then into an engineering apprenticeship and degree, he finally makes the move to follow his own instincts and finds a career that will allow him to see the world and be close to the sea that he loved so much. Marriage and fatherhood follow soon behind but neither quite provides the degree of happiness he seeks. Emigration to Canada seems to be a positive move, but becoming a company owner eventually proves disastrous. Divorce, a return for a few years to his fatherland, a second westwards migration across “The Pond”, quickly followed by a second marriage, eventually sow the seeds for his salvation. But where will he find the perfect nest?
This memoire takes the reader through the joys and sorrows, trials and tribulations in the life of a not-so-ordinary man to whom happiness comes easily but is often short-lived, as the author tries to find the source of his recurring feelings of dissatisfaction.
As for the tales . . . the author will draw these from his own lifelong experiences, so no scandalous revelations and no-one has need to feel threatened!
A note from the author:-
This is a new endeavour for me and is as much a learning process in operating one’s own domain, as it is an exercise in showing off my writing to the world for their encouragement and their appreciation, or otherwise!
You will, hopefully, find that this site has two streams of my writing for you to follow, which are neither mutually exclusive, nor necessarily totally distinct from each other. The first stream is a blog-book titled “Are we nearly there“, and hopefully someday I will publish the book as a complete work. This memoire will describe as honestly as I can (or perhaps dare!) and, in my own sweet way, will comment on my life from very early childhood to the present day. The second stream, “Searching for the future“, is more a travel diary of the journeys that my wife and I have taken, seeking the right place to build our perfect nest.
I intend posting to both streams, in no particular order, and though the posts to the blog will remain as posts, those to the travel diary will probably end up as separate pages due to a quirk of the website construction for which, as yet, I have not found the cause and I certainly have no idea how to rectify. I invite you to read either or both, and would be delighted to have your opinions as comments after each post. Constructive criticism will be especially appreciated, for although it can sometimes be painful to receive, it is the only way I’m going to reach my goal of writing material that people from all walks of life would like to read.
Thanks, Taran.
